Livery Driver Sentenced in 2014 Rape

BOSTON, Oct. 20, 2015—A Quincy livery driver was sentenced to prison yesterday for kidnapping, raping, and stealing from a female passenger in South Boston last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

SAID SAID (D.O.B. 2/3/74) a.k.a HASHI K. SAID faced sentencing yesterday after a Suffolk Superior Court jury last month found him guilty of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape, indecent assault and battery, assault and battery, larceny from a person, and improper use of a credit card over $250.  Assistant District Attorney Amy Martin of the DA’s Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Unit requested a term of 10 to 15 years in state prison followed by 10 years of probation. Judge Garry Inge imposed a sentence of six to eight years in state prison followed by 10 years of probation.

At trial, Martin presented evidence and testimony to prove that, shortly after midnight on June 22, 2014, the 25-year-old victim was in the area of 270 Northern Ave. when she flagged down a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan with livery plates driven by Said.  Said then drove the victim to a deserted location – believed to be near the South Boston postal facility – where he sexually assaulted her.  Said then stole the victim’s iPhone, debit and credit cards, and cash before driving her to the area of 120 State St.  The victim fled the vehicle and was transported to Boston Medical Center.

The evidence showed that hours later Said used the victim’s debit and credit cards to make purchases at a Quincy gas station and Dorchester pharmacy, where he was captured in store surveillance images.  Boston Police took him into custody in South Boston two days later on June 24.

Before Said’s sentence was imposed, the victim spoke to the court about the lasting impact the assault has had on her life.

“All I can do is move on and hope that the trauma I have experienced and the pain that Said has put me and my family through will protect any future victims from falling prey to his assaults and cruel acts of indecency,” she told the court.

Sexual assault can happen to anyone. While the victims of any crime are asked to call 911 in an emergency, the survivors of sexual violence in Suffolk County can also call the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center’s 24-hour hotline at 800-841-8371. The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center provides medical advocacy, legal services, counseling, and other services to victims of rape and sexual assault.

Kerry Kolditz is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate.  Said was represented by Jack Cunha.
