“STOMPER” BACK BEHIND BARS AFTER ALLEGEDLY BEATING HOMELESS MAN

A homeless man known as “the Stomper” is back behind bars after allegedly beating another man with no fixed address in May and being captured by Boston Police, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

DENNIS CONNOLLY (D.O.B. 7/31/54) was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail at his arraignment in Boston Municipal Court on Monday. Connolly allegedly beat a 43-year-old homeless man on May 18 but vanished before Boston Police arrived at the scene.

At Suffolk prosecutors’ request, Judge Sally Kelly also revoked Connolly’s open bail on a malicious destruction of property charge out of South Boston District Court. Connolly had been in default on that case.

The victim in the most recent case said he had been beaten by Connolly in the area of Ipswich Street and the Bowker Exchange when interviewed by Boston Police officers shortly after 10:30 p.m. Observing the man to have injuries to his head and face, emergency medical technicians transported him to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Though a canvas of the area proved unsuccessful, Boston Police caught up with Connolly last weekend and took him into custody for the beating.

Connolly was acquitted of assault with a dangerous weapon and witness intimidation last year by a Suffolk Superior Court jury. Prosecutors in that case had sought to prove that he threatened a convenience store clerk with a box cutter and told a Boston Police officer that, “I swear on my dead mother’s soul something bad is going to happen to you” if the officer appeared in court to testify against him.

Connolly is represented by attorney Greg St. Cyr. He will return to court on July 14.
