The DA’s Child Protection Unit is composed of prosecutors, advocates, forensic interviewers, and other support staff who are trained and experienced in working with children and survivors of trauma. They work closely with detectives and other partner agencies in order to best meet the needs of abuse survivors and their non-offending caregivers.

Very often, the decision to disclose abuse is one of the most difficult choices for a person to make. For that reason, we strive to honor the survivors of child abuse who have spoken out for their bravery and let others know that they are not alone.  Now You See: A Celebration of Courageous Kids is a nationally recognized photo exhibit created by members of the DA’s staff that honors children and adult survivors who have taken part in Suffolk County prosecutions and gives them the opportunity to speak directly to others who have suffered abuse.  Images from the collection and more information on the project can be found here.

Child Witnesses
Children who must testify in court often find the experience confusing and frightening. The District Attorney’s Victim Witness Assistance Program is specially equipped to prepare children for their courtroom appearance.
