Second Man Charged in May Homicide

BOSTON, Oct. 25, 2012—A second man was arrested by Boston Police last night and arraigned by Suffolk prosecutors today after further investigation into the shooting death of 33-year-old Steven Fuentes in Dorchester, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ANTHONY KING SOLOMON (D.O.B. 4/18/80) of Everett was formally charged in Roxbury District Court today with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, both in connection with the May 24 incident that claimed Fuentes’ life outside his Leyland Street home. Judge Kenneth Fiandaca granted a request by Suffolk prosecutors that Solomon be held without bail pending trial.

Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum told the court today that another man, GEORGE ORTEGA (D.O.B. 2/19/83) of Lynn, had previously been identified as the man who shot Fuentes repeatedly as the two men squared off as if to fight at about 7:40 that night. Ortega has been held without bail since his murder arraignment on Sept. 7.

Polumbaum also said that Ortega was given the gun “immediately before the shooting” by another man, who was “noticeable because he was wearing a coat on a hot day.”

Based on identifications of that man at the scene and through surveillance images by Boston Police and civilian witnesses, that second man was identified as Solomon and prosecutors approved his arrest on murder charges last night.

Michael Schultz is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. Solomon is represented by attorney John Courtney.
