BOSTON, Aug. 26, 2013—A Revere man was held on high bail at his arraignment today on charges he fatally stabbed his friend, 50-year-old Ronald Russo of Winthrop, after the two spent Saturday evening drinking together, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

PETER DECONINCK (DOB 10/5/66) of Revere was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on one count of murder for Russo’s death and additional counts of disorderly conduct and threats for his alleged actions when approached by Revere Police later Saturday night.  Assistant District Attorney Masai King requested that Deconinck be held without bail.  Judge Michele Hogan set bail in the amount of $1 million.

According to prosecutors, Revere and State Police responded to 418 Revere Beach Parkway shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday where they found Russo on the mobile home’s floor, covered in blood and holding a knife in his hand.  He had sustained 69 stab wounds and lacerations, including multiple injuries to his torso and back, prosecutors said.

Neither the victim nor the defendant lived at the scene.

A man who had spent the evening with Deconinck and Russo told investigators that the three had been drinking together and had several physical altercations during the course of the evening, prosecutors said.  The man said he briefly left the room and returned to find Deconinck and Russo fighting and that each had a knife in his hand.  He told police that he fled the trailer in fear at that time.

Shortly after the 911 call that brought investigators to the crime scene, Revere Police were called to the Beachmont MBTA station for a report of a man – later identified as Deconinck – covered in blood.  Deconinck was allegedly unruly at the scene and threatened to kill the officers. They detained him and transported him to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of a laceration to his calf and an abrasion to his hand.

While at the hospital, Deconinck allegedly told investigators that he had been drinking with Russo earlier in the night and that he was stabbed or shot in the leg as he attempted to run out of the trailer, prosecutors said.  He allegedly denied killing Russo.

Deconinck was represented by attorney James Greenberg.  He will return to court on Sept. 26.
