$1 Million Bail in North End Stabbing

BOSTON, Dec. 22, 2016—A Leominster man was held on $1 million cash bail today following his arraignment for allegedly stabbing and nearly killing a 50-year-old man in the victim’s North End apartment, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ANTHONY SPINELLI (D.O.B. 12/26/71) was arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery for the Tuesday afternoon incident on Fulton Street.

Assistant District Attorney Catherine Ham told the court that Spinelli and the victim were known to each other. When Spinelli rang the older man’s doorbell, the victim let him in. At some point in the moments that followed, the 6’2”, 240-pound Spinelli attacked the significantly smaller victim with a knife, stabbing him repeatedly and causing life-threatening injuries. During a struggle, the victim was able to pull an alarm and escape the assailant’s grasp.

The victim was rushed in critical condition to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and is now expected to survive.

Spinelli fled the area and was apprehended yesterday by State Police in the shed of an Oakwood Street property in Revere.

Spinelli was represented by attorney Justin Dreschler and will return to court on Jan. 17.
