$5k BAIL IN JAMAICA PLAIN ASSAULT

A Roxbury man was held on $5,000 cash bail today following his arraignment for allegedly forcing his hands down a young woman’s pants last week, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RAPHAEL COX (D.O.B. 1/28/93) was arraigned in West Roxbury District Court for the Feb. 4 incident. Prosecutors say he indecently assaulted a 19-year-old female on Seaverns Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m. If he should post bail, Cox must abide by a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew, Conley said.

The victim reported the assault Thursday morning, telling Boston Police that a man dressed in a red, gray, and blue sweatshirt approached her from behind, grabbed her pants, and placed his hands in her pants. When she kicked and screamed at him, she said, the man fled toward the Green Street MBTA station.

On Feb. 8, MBTA Transit Police notified Boston Police detectives that they had a potential suspect in the assault. That suspect, identified as Cox, was at the Ruggles MBTA station. Cox agreed to speak with Boston Police detectives and, after being read his Miranda rights, gave a recorded statement. At the end of that statement, Cox was taken into custody on a single count of indecent assault and battery.

Conley hailed the interagency cooperation that led to the suspect’s identification and arrest.

“That’s the kind of partnership that solves crimes and holds offenders accountable,” he said. “It makes our cases stronger as we bring them into court.”

Cox was represented by attorney Scott Kramer. He will return to court on Feb. 25.
