Domestic Violence Call Leads to Arrest, Ammunition Charges

Boston, August 20, 2012 – A 911 call for a domestic violence assault led to a Dorchester man’s arrest last week on assault and ammunition charges, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

TYRONE GOFORTH (D.O.B. 7/17/80) was arraigned Friday in Dorchester District Court on charges of assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of ammunition and a firearm violation with three or more prior convictions for violent or drug-related crimes.

Goforth was convicted in 2009 for cocaine distribution, on a firearm charge in 2000 and for armed robbery in 1999.

Assistant District Attorney Andrius Knasas requested $30,000 bail and Judge David Poole imposed $15,000 bail.

Goforth is charged with assaulting his girlfriend at an Alexander Street residence Friday morning. Goforth was still at the home when officers arrived after being called around 7:16 a.m. Officers arrested him after a struggle in which one officer suffered injuries to his hands. While gathering Goforth’s belongings to bring to the station, police found ammunition and magazines for a firearm inside a bag that also contained a digital scale.

Conley urged victims of any crime, including intimate partner violence, to call 911 in an emergency. SafeLink, a statewide domestic violence hotline, can be reached at 877-785-2020. SafeLink is answered by trained advocates 24 hours a day in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, as well as TTY at 877-521-2601. Goforth was represented by attorney Carla Barrett. He will return to court on Sept. 12.
