BOSTON, Sept. 7, 2017—A Revere man was held on high bail today following his arraignment for allegedly stabbing two men, one of them fatally, during an early morning altercation in Chelsea, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

NAZEEB GONZALEZ (D.O.B. 10/17/79) was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on charges of manslaughter and armed assault with intent to murder for the incident at Broadway and Stockton Street just before 3:10 am. Assistant District Attorney Judith Lyons recommended that he be held on $750,000 cash bail; Judge Ina Howard-Hogan imposed $200,000 and ordered that Gonzalez wear a GPS monitor if he posts that amount.

Lyons told the court that the 23-year-old Everett man killed during the encounter had been identified, but that investigators had not yet reached his family. She said witness statements, video footage, and other evidence suggest that the defendant and victims pulled into the parking lot of a convenience stores separately and exchanged words. Gonzalez allegedly escalated the encounter to violence by throwing a punch, however, and all three sustained injuries of varying seriousness.

Chelsea Police responded to the scene to find the 23-year-old victim with mortal injuries. He was rushed to CHA Everett Hospital, where he died. A 34-year-old Chelsea man with less serious injuries was also at the scene; he was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and is expected to survive. Gonzalez was found about a block away, also injured, and was likewise transported to MGH, where he gave a statement to investigators.

In the course of their investigation, Chelsea Police detectives and members of the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit were made aware of a Good Samaritan who stopped at the scene to assist injured parties in the immediate aftermath of the fatal encounter. Investigators wish to speak with this person, and stressed that he is sought only as a witness and is not accused of any wrongdoing.

The Samaritan is described as a male, possibly middle aged and Latino, with salt-and-pepper hair. He was driving an older white vehicle, possibly a white Honda Accord. Gonzalez was represented by attorney John Hayes. He will return to court on Oct. 5.
