BOSTON, Feb. 9, 2018—The alleged driver who crashed into another vehicle, badly injuring its occupant, was arraigned on a felony drunk driving charge today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DOMENIC COLUMBO (D.O.B. 11/22/78) of West Roxbury, who is a Boston Police officer, walked into court on a summons arraignment for causing serious bodily injury while operating under the influence. Judge James Stanton released Columbo on his own recognizance, ordering him to stay away from the victim’s family.

Columbo was operating his personal vehicle, a 2012 Ford F150, when he allegedly struck a Honda Accord at the intersection of Columbia Road and Ceylon Street in the early morning hours of Jan. 1. The collision injured the Honda’s two 20-year-old occupants; the passenger suffered serious injuries but survived. He and Columbo were both hospitalized following the crash.

The operator of the Honda did not show signs of impairment. Columbo’s blood was drawn at the hospital. Based on the blood draw, video evidence, and further investigation by collision reconstruction experts, investigators believe he was both too intoxicated to drive legally and operating at a speed higher than the 25 mile per hour limit.

Columbo was represented by attorney Jack Diamond. He returns to court on March 23.
