Alleged Esplanade Rapist Held without Bail after Indictment

BOSTON, Nov. 6, 2015— A South End man was ordered held without bail at his arraignment today in connection with a series of violent rapes between 2006 and 2010, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ALEJANDRO DONE (D.O.B. 9/13/68) of the South End was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on two counts each of rape, aggravated rape, kidnapping, assault with intent to rape, and a single charge of armed robbery in connection with four assaults that occurred in South Boston and along the Esplanade. At the request of Assistant District Attorney David Deakin, Clerk Magistrate Anna Kaczmarek ordered Done held without bail.

Done is currently serving a sentence of 12 to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty in connection with a similar offense in Middlesex County.

Deakin told the court that Done is charged with sexually assaulting four women whom he either kidnapped or confined after encountering them alone in the area of South Boston and along the Esplanade. The assaults occurred on July 29, 2006; June 16, 2007; July 29, 2007; and June 13, 2010.

The cases remained unsolved until earlier this year, when DNA evidence in the assaults was matched to Done, who had been ordered to provide a DNA sample after his arrest last year in another sexual assault in Cambridge.

Sexual assault can happen to anyone. While the victims of any crime are asked to call 911 in an emergency, the survivors of sexual violence in Suffolk County can also call the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center’s 24-hour hotline at 800-841-8371. The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center provides medical advocacy, legal services, counseling, and other services to victims of rape and sexual assault.

Anne Kelley-McCarthy is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. Done is represented by Timothy Bradl.  He returns to court Nov. 20.
