Alleged Gunman Charged in June Homicide

BOSTON, Aug. 22, 2017—A Hyde Park man was held without bail today following his arraignment for the shooting death of 29-year-old Jorrell Browne in Mattapan earlier this summer, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ANDRE HENDERSON (D.O.B. 11/19/82) was charged in Dorchester Municipal Court with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm for the June 26 shooting that claimed Browne’s life.

“Thanks to witness statements, video footage, and methodical work by investigators, we’re one step closer to delivering justice for Mr. Browne and his loved ones,” Conley said. “Some cases can be built in days and others take weeks or even years, but we will never give up until the truth is spoken in a Suffolk County courtroom.”

Assistant District Attorney Tara Burdman of the DA’s Homicide Unit told Judge Paul McManus that Browne was part of a small group in the area of a Blue Hill Avenue pizza shop shortly before 6:30 that evening. Henderson was also in the area and allegedly exchanged words with Brown on the sidewalk. Browne walked away and entered the restaurant.

A short time later, Henderson allegedly approached the shop and the men crossed paths again outside. After a second verbal exchange, Burdman said, Henderson pulled out a handgun and shot Browne repeatedly. He allegedly ran from the scene – and, prosecutors say, the state.

On July 7, based on evidence gathered in the course of the investigation, prosecutors approved a complaint charging Henderson with murder. He was apprehended last week by US Marshals and local authorities in Alabama, where Boston Police took custody of him yesterday.

Henderson was represented today by attorney Kelli Porges. He will return to court on Sept. 29.
