Alleged Gunman Held in June Homicide

BOSTON, Nov. 17, 2016—The man accused of shooting 31-year-old Andrew Flonory to death five months ago was formally charged with murder today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JULIAN TROCHE (D.O.B. 7/15/92) was arraigned today in Dorchester Municipal Court following his arrest yesterday by members of the Boston Police Homicide Unit and SWAT team. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Mark Hallal, chief of the DA’s Senior Trial Unit, Judge Paul McManus ordered him held without bail.

Hallal told the court that Boston Police responded to an outdoor scene following a ShotSpotter activation on Astoria Street in Mattapan just after 11:00 pm, finding Flonory suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Additional units found a second man in his mid-20s suffering from gunshot injuries nearby. Flonory was pronounced dead at the scene; the second man survived his injuries.

The investigation, Hallal said, revealed that there had been a large party on Astoria Street that night, which the victims were approaching when a man produced a firearm and pointed it at them. This man – later identified as Troche – fired repeatedly at them from inside a fence at the location of the party, killing Flonory and wounding the survivor.

The evidence gathered by investigators included shell casings, projectiles, witness statements identifying Troche as the man who fired at Flonory, and cell phone records that show Troche in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene at the time of the homicide.

Troche was represented by attorney James Greenberg. He returns to court on Dec. 19.
