BOSTON, July 11, 2017—The man who allegedly shot and killed 17-year-old Christopher Menard was ordered held without bail at his arraignment today in Roxbury Municipal Court, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

KHAMONIE McCALLOP (D.O.B. 1/4/99) of Roxbury was charged today with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the July 6 shooting that left Menard mortally wounded and a 14-year-old male with less serious injuries. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Craig Iannini of the DA’s Homicide Unit, Judge Paul McManus ordered McCallop held without bail.

Boston Police officers on patrol in Grove Hall responded to the sound of gunshots from the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Cheney Street at about 7:30 on Thursday evening. They found two males, later identified as Menard and the surviving juvenile, suffering from gunshot wounds. Menard was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he died of his injuries; the 14-year-old was transported to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he was treated for non-fatal injuries.

In addition to collecting physical evidence at the scene, homicide detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video evidence, obtaining among other things video footage that captured the area of the shooting and individuals involved. McCallop was identified from that footage and from still images obtained from the footage, Iannini told the court.

McCallop was represented today by attorney Michael Doolin. He will return to court on Aug. 9.
