Alleged Gunman Identified, Charged in 2015 Homicide

BOSTON, Oct. 5, 2016—A Dorchester man was held without bail today following his indictment in the shooting death of 19-year-old Joshua Morales in Mattapan last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

KHARI WILCOX (D.O.B. 2/9/97) was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of second-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm in connection with the Dec. 29, 2015, incident that claimed Morales’ life.

Wilcox has been in custody since his July 22 arraignment in Dorchester Municipal Court on gun charges that were developed in the course of the homicide investigation by Boston Police and Suffolk prosecutors. His Sept. 8 indictment supersedes that case and moves it to Suffolk Superior Court.

Assistant District Attorney Tara Burdman told the court that Morales suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the torso, during the 8:49 am shooting on Wilmore Street. Boston Police recovered video surveillance footage from the area that appears to show Morales and another man walking down the driveway of a Wilmore Street residence and going behind the building. The video shows a man later identified as Wilcox going behind the same building and then running back away from it with a gun in his hand.  Shortly thereafter, Morales and the second man can be seen emerging from behind the building, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

An examination of Morales’ cell phone and that of Wilcox showed the two communicating and making plans to meet that morning, Burdman said.

Eliana Builes is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. Wilcox is represented by attorney Eliot Weinstein. He will return to court on Nov. 29.
