Arizona Man Charged in Logan Methamphetamine Bust

BOSTON, June 29, 2015—An Arizona man was held on high bail at his arraignment for allegedly bringing about a pound of crystal methamphetamine to Boston through Logan Airport this weekend, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

MICAH GIBSON (D.O.B. 12/19/76) of Phoenix was arraigned in East Boston Municipal Court on one count of trafficking in more than 200 grams of methamphetamine. Assistant District Attorney Emily Hamrock recommended that he be held on $150,000 cash bail and be ordered to surrender his passport and wear a GPS monitor if he posts that amount; a judge imposed $75,000 bail and the requested conditions.

Hamrock told the court that Massachusetts State Police had identified Gibson during an ongoing investigation and learned that he may have been transporting large quantities of methamphetamine from Phoenix to Boston. Troopers and Drug Enforcement Administration agents travelled to Terminal A to interview him as he arrived on a Delta flight yesterday morning.

Gibson retrieved a checked bag from the baggage carousel and went into the men’s room, where a surveillance officer observed him allegedly tearing the tags off of it. Additional troopers and agents approached him as he exited the men’s room and inquired about his travel plans. Based on responses that they believed were inconsistent and evasive, they read Gordon his Miranda rights.

After advising him of his rights, troopers and agents sought Gibson’s consent to search his bags. Gibson granted it and signed a consent form. During a hand search, troopers and agents recovered 448 grams of a white, crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine wrapped in bubble wrap inside a FedEx envelope. At that point he was placed under arrest.

Gibson was represented by attorney Kelly Cusack. He will return to court on July 27.
