Investigators want to speak with the occupants of two vehicles that were in close proximity to the collision that claimed the life of a 74-year-old Somerville man on the morning of Nov. 25. They stressed that detectives are only looking for information those witness might have in order to ensure the most thorough investigation possible.

Based on evidence developed thus far, members of the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit believe the Somerville man was involved in a minor motor vehicle accident with another car at about 8:15 a.m. He and the driver of that car exited their respective vehicles and spoke in the far right lane of southbound traffic near Exit 20.

After that brief discussion, the Somerville man was preparing to enter his car when a third vehicle, operated by a 63-year-old Ayer man, struck him while attempting to change lanes and avoid a collision. The Ayer man remained at the scene, called 911, submitted to a full interview, and has not been charged.
State Police detectives want to speak with the driver of the car involved in the earlier minor accident and any passengers who may have been inside. The vehicle is described as a compact, four-door car, dark in color and possibly a Chevrolet.

Detectives would also like to speak with the operator and any passengers of a second vehicle that was following closely behind the Ayer man involved in the fatal collision. That car is believed to be a light-colored station wagon, possibly a Subaru, and it slowed considerably right next to the Somerville man’s vehicle in the immediate aftermath of the crash. Still images of this vehicle also accompany this press release.

The drivers and any potential passengers of these two vehicles are urged to call the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817 or the State Police Tunnel Barracks at 617-946-3000. Any person who recognizes the cars or has information on who was driving them is also asked to call State Police.
