BOSTON, May 26, 2018—State Police detectives investigating a fatal hit-and-run in Mattapan are seeking a taxi driver who may have witnessed the collision or anyone else with information on the vehicle involved, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

“The taxi driver is sought as a witness only and is not accused of any wrongdoing,” Conley emphasized, asking him or her to come forward.

The driver – or anyone else with information on the collision, no matter how minor it may seem – is asked to contact the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817.

The collision in the area of 972 Morton St. claimed the life of a 40-year-old man, who was found in the right travel lane after a 911 call just after midnight. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld while family notifications are under way.

Witnesses in and around the area told investigators that a white taxi cab was among the vehicles in the area at around the time it occurred. Based on those statements and video footage that shows the cab without any of the damage that would have been consistent with the collision or the physical evidence at the scene, investigators are confident it was not involved in the collision.

The investigation is aided by the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and Boston Police.
