BOY, 13, CHARGED IN DOUBLE STABBING AT SCHOOL

A Jamaica Plain youth was charged today with stabbing two fellow students at an area school, allegedly because they taunted him in gymnasium, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Suffolk prosecutors recommended $1,000 cash bail and a 4:00 p.m. curfew for the 13-YEAR-OLD MALE during his arraignment in the Juvenile Session of West Roxbury District Court. A clerk magistrate declined to set monetary bail or a curfew and instead ordered the boy to stay away from the victims and refrain from possessing any weapons.

The defendant, whose name is not being released because he is a juvenile, allegedly stabbed the victims in the leg at about 4:00 yesterday afternoon in the Mary E. Curley School’s gym. One victim, a 13-year-old Jamaica Plain boy, required four stitches in his left thigh while the other, a 13-year-old Roslindale boy, required three stitches to his calf.

The victims told responding Boston Police that they were playing basketball with one another when the defendant became engaged in a verbal altercation. At that point, the Jamaica Plain victim said the defendant had “a girly voice,” allegedly prompting the defendant to pull out a knife and stab him in the left leg. The defendant then allegedly chased the Roslindale victim a short distance and stabbed him in the left calf area before fleeing the gym.

Both victims were treated at Children’s Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Boston Police obtained a name and address for the alleged assailant and traveled to his home, where he was taken into custody and later booked without incident.

“The fact that he was carrying a knife is bad enough,” Conley said, “but using it to stab two fellow students is deeply, deeply disturbing.”

The youth was represented today by attorney Steven Key.
