BOSTON, Dec. 18, 2013—A Brighton man was sentenced to prison yesterday after a jury found him guilty of robbing a Brighton sandwich shop staffed by a former high school classmate, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced.
Jurors deliberated for approximately two hours on Monday before finding STANLEY SAINTIL (D.O.B. 1/29/92) guilty of armed robbery while masked and possession of a sawed off shotgun. Assistant District Attorney Montez Haywood of the DA’s Major Felony Bureau recommended a sentence of seven to nine years in prison. Judge Judith Fabricant imposed a sentence of five to seven years.
During two days of testimony, Haywood presented evidence and testimony to prove that on Nov. 13, 2012, Saintil entered a Subway restaurant on Western Avenue armed with a sawed- off shotgun and wearing a white facemask that covered his mouth and nose. Saintil threw a backpack onto the restaurant’s counter, where a female employee complied with Saintil’s demand for cash. Saintil then fled with approximately $1,200 in cash. The robbery was captured on surveillance video inside the restaurant.
The victim provided police with a detailed description of the man who robbed her and told investigators that she recognized him as a former classmate at Brighton High School. Boston Police officers assigned to the school were then able to identify Saintil.
A search warrant was executed at Saintil’s home two days after the robbery uncovered a sawed-off New England Firearms shotgun, live shotgun shells, the clothing worn by the suspect during the robbery, and a backpack.
After his arrest, Saintil made taped, post-Miranda statements to police admitting to the armed robbery.
Michael Coffey was the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. Saintil was represented by attorney John Seed.
