Brockton Man Held in ’07 Roxbury Homicide

A Brockton man was ordered held without bail today, more than four years after he allegedly gunned down 17-year-old David Jones in Roxbury, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ANDRE McNEIL (D.O.B. 10/25/89) was arraigned on charges of murder and unlawful firearms possession in connection with the Nov. 14, 2007, incident that claimed Jones’ life on Bartlett Street just after the victim left Madison Park High School.

“Investigators give every single homicide everything they have, with one goal in mind: to build the strongest case possible,” Conley said. “Some cases are solved in hours and some cases, like this one, are solved in years. I hope David’s family can take some satisfaction in these developments, and I hope others will realize that Boston Police and Suffolk prosecutors don’t quit when it comes to these cases.”

Assistant District Attorney Ursula Knight of Conley’s Homicide Unit told the court that Jones was a recent transfer to Madison Park and that McNeil had previously been a student there. Despite the fact that he no longer attended that school, Knight said, evidence suggests that McNeil appeared at the school that afternoon.

McNeil allegedly waited across the street from the high school and waited until students were dismissed for the day. Knight said the two young men met up and walked together toward Bartlett Street, where shots rang out moments later.

Neighbors in the area saw Jones stumble and fall, struck by multiple gunshots that soon claimed his life at Boston Medical Center.

Just moments after the shooting, Knight said, McNeil was on the phone reporting to his associates what he had done. He also made admissions to others in the days and weeks following Jones’ homicide, the prosecutor said, noting that the statements were corroborated by forensic evidence and “other idiosyncratic details.”
Members of the Boston Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested McNeil this morning on a warrant obtained amid the ongoing investigation.

Michael Schultz is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. McNeil is represented by attorney Roger Witkin. The case will return to court on March 7.
