Chelsea Shooting Victim Succumbs to Injuries

CHELSEA, Oct. 1, 2017–A Chelsea man who suffered gunshot wounds in an apparent drive-by shooting last week has succumbed to his injuries and his death is being investigated as a homicide, Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes and Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

The 37-year-old man died of his injuries last night at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was being treated. His name is being withheld until full family notifications are made. A second victim, a 19-year-old female, is recovering from injuries she sustained during the same incident on Congress Avenue near Shawmut Street.

Chelsea Police detectives and the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit have been investigating the double shooting since Wednesday evening, when the city’s ShotSpotter system detected multiple gunshots at about 7:45 pm.  Investigators continue to urge anyone with information on the incident, including people or vehicles that may have been involved, to share their knowledge with police.
