CONLEY’S OFFICE REACHES OUT TO TATTOOISTS IN ONGOING IDENTIFICATION EFFORT

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office is reaching out to Boston-area tattoo artists in an effort to identify a man whose body was recovered from the Mystic River on Thursday morning.

Four days after the discovery, State Police detectives assigned to Conley’s office have yet to identify the African-American male, who was believed to be 20 to 35 years old when he died. Initial checks of missing persons reports did not provide any leads, and investigators are disseminating a photograph of a tattoo he had on his right shoulder. The tattoo depicts a basketball surrounded by flames.

The man stood about six feet tall, weighed about 160 lbs, and was in good physical shape. He was wearing a black Everlast sweatshirt, a black tee-shirt with “AF 1” and a picture of a gold crown on the front, black sweatpants, and size 11M brown Timberland boots.

While providing security to a liquid natural gas tanker Thursday morning, troopers assigned to the State Police Marine Section observed the body near the Boston Autoport upriver from the Tobin Bridge. An exact cause of death has not yet been determined, but an autopsy conducted later in the day found no physical trauma or injuries.

Anyone with information that could potentially identify the man is urged to call the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817 or State Police Headquarters at 508-820-2121. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.
