CONLEY, COMMUNITY GATHER FOR ANNUAL SOCCER EVENT

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley will join crime watch groups, local businesses, and youths of all ages at the seventh annual Soccer for Peace tournament in Dorchester next week.

The tournament, which has taken place every summer at Pope John Paul II Park since 2003, provides an opportunity for city youth and community members to join in an afternoon of recreation, physical activity, and positive interaction with members of the criminal justice system with the added goal of promoting peace through teamwork and cooperation.

Conley has welcomed area residents to participate in the fun-filled summer activity at Dorchester’s Pope John Paul II Park, where kids, teens, and adults break off into teams and play one another in the world’s most popular sport. Conley’s office has sponsored the event as a way to build harmony, community, and leadership skills for young people while playing host to a positive, end-of-summer activity.

All attendees will receive a free raffle ticket upon registration, and will be eligible to win one of several prizes including: school bags filled with school supplies, gift certificates to popular restaurants and businesses, and soccer equipment. Area businesses will provide snacks and refreshments, which will be available following the game.

Members of numerous Boston-area community groups will also be present, with representatives from neighborhood crime watches, anti-violence programs, and outreach organizations taking part in the day’s events.

The three-hour event will be held August 27, at Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester and is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Any youth who are interested in participating can pre-register with Conley’s Director of Community Relations, Tanya Brussa, either by phone at: (617) 619 – 4131 or by email at: Tanya.Brussa@state.ma.us.
