DA Conley, Other Officials Lacing Up for Annual Climb to Support Abused Kids

BOSTON, March 30, 2017—Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley will join state and local dignitaries along with hundreds of service providers, victim advocates, prosecutors, police personnel, and everyday heroes for this weekend’s fourth annual Ginormous Climb to benefit young survivors of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

The annual vertical charity run up the 60 flights of 200 Clarendon – formerly the John Hancock Tower and still Boston’s tallest building – raises funds for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County. The CAC is the “hub” that surrounds young victims with caring adults and connects them with “spokes” that include law enforcement, clinical care, social services, and other supports to bring them justice and help them heal. Last year’s Ginormous Climb raised more than $100,000.

“If you think climbing 60 flights of stairs is tough, consider what these kids are going through,” Conley said. “Not only have they suffered abuse at the hands of adults who were supposed to protect them, but they’re disclosing it and testifying in detail to strangers in an unfamiliar environment. They’re the real faces of strength, endurance, and overcoming challenges.”

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County is a fully accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance and a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The CAC unites public, private and community partners to provide a coordinated and comprehensive response to abuse for child victims and their families.  Serving more than 1,500 children annually, the CAC’s multidisciplinary team partners with more than 25 agencies to reduce stress and improve outcomes throughout the abuse investigation, intervention, and healing process.

There’s still time to register to take part in the Ginormous Climb as a climber or volunteer. Visit http://support.suffolkcac.org/site/TR?fr_id=1040&pg=entry to sign up, or visit www.suffolkcac.org to learn more about the CAC.
