Death Investigation at Charles Circle

BOSTON, March 11, 2015—State Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a commercial vehicle and a pedestrian at Charles Circle this afternoon.

Because the fatal collision took place on a State roadway within the City of Boston, the investigation is being led by the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit, assisted by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, uniformed troopers, and other State Police assets.

The pedestrian has been identified as a 68-year-old Boston woman. The preliminary evidence, which includes statements from witnesses at the scene, suggests that she was crossing Cambridge Street against the light and heading toward the Liberty Hotel when a tractor-trailer operated by a 38-year-old Saugus man struck her.

Emergency medical technicians from an ambulance company were in the immediate area and stopped to assist. The woman was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital a short distance away, where she died of her injuries.

The driver showed no signs of impairment when interviewed by police. Though the investigation remains open, with investigators expecting to retrieve footage from public safety cameras in the area, no charges have been sought against him at this time.
