Death Investigation at Pleasure Bay in South Boston

BOSTON, May 29, 2012—State Police detectives assigned to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office are investigating a Boston man’s death in the area of Pleasure Bay in South Boston today.

A passerby notified State Police just before 7:00 this morning that he had seen a body in the water in the area of the Sugar Bowl near Castle Island. Uniformed troopers from the South Boston Barracks, Troop H detectives, and the State Police Marine Section responded to the area a short time later, as did members of the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit.

The man’s remains were recovered from shallow water off the shoreline. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Using items found on his person, investigators have confirmed his identification as a 60-year-old Dorchester man but are withholding that identification for the time being.

An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to reveal the cause and manner of the man’s death, which have not yet been established. Anyone with information on the incident may contact State Police by dialing 911 from a cell phone or the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817.
