Defendant Held in Fatal Stabbing During Blizzard

BOSTON, July 13, 2015— The man accused of murdering Charles Floyd was held without bail at his arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RICHARDSON ROBERT (D.O.B. 4/22/81) was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on an indictment charging him with first-degree murder in Floyd’s Jan. 26 murder.  At the request of Assistant District Attorney David Bradley, Clerk Magistrate Anne Kaczmarek ordered Robert held without bail while the case is pending.

Floyd’s body was discovered by members of a snow removal crew in the area of Shetland Street in Roxbury during the first major snowstorm of the year on Jan. 26.  An autopsy revealed that he had been stabbed multiple times.

Alongside Floyd’s body, Boston Police also discovered a plastic bag containing a cell phone; an investigation revealed that Robert purchased the phone a short time before the murder. Robert and Floyd had been in contact by phone prior to the murder, prosecutors said.  Additional evidence, including surveillance video and witness statements, place Robert in the area at the time of the fatal stabbing.

A Suffolk County grand jury returned an indictment on Tuesday charging Robert with murder and a warrant issued that same day.  He was arrested on that warrant as well as two outstanding warrants for motor vehicle offenses on Friday evening by State Police who pulled Robert over for speeding in Watertown.  Watertown Police assisted in the arrest.

Robert is represented by attorney Michael Roitman.  He returns to court Aug. 11.
