Dorchester Man Accused of Selling Drugs Out of DPW Truck

BOSTON, Aug. 4, 2014—The operator of a Boston Department of Public Works truck was arraigned today on charges he sold drugs out of the vehicle, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

KENNETH CLARK (D.O.B. 7/14/65) of Dorchester was arraigned today in Dorchester District Court on a charge of distribution of a Class A substance as a subsequent offense.  That charge was brought in light of a 1999 Suffolk Superior Court conviction for distributing a Class A substance and possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance. Judge Serge Georges imposed $15,000 bail but declined prosecutors’ request that he revoke Clark’s open bail on a case out of Wrentham District Court charging possession of a Class A substance and operating after suspension.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Callahan told the court that on Friday morning, Boston Police officers arrived at the city’s public works yard with a warrant to search Clark.  Clark arrived at the site in his personal vehicle at approximately 7:30 a.m. and entered a public works truck.  While following the vehicle, police observed Clark exit and re-enter the vehicle in Wolcott Square and them make several more stops before stopping at the intersection of River Street and Edgewater Drive.  There, Clark was approached by a woman and both walked away from the city vehicle and parted ways at a nearby intersection – behavior police recognized as indicative of a drug transaction, prosecutors said.

Officers approached the woman, who made post-Miranda statements indicating that she had bought heroin from a city employee wearing a yellow safety known as “K” and produced a small amount of heroin that appeared to be tied in the finger of a blue plastic glove, prosecutors said. The woman will be summonsed to court for arraignment at a later date.

Officers placed Clark under arrest.  During the execution of the previously obtained search warrant, police found Clark to be in possession of $1,160 in cash, a cell phone, and blue gloves consistent with the packaging of the heroin seized from his co-defendant.

Clark is represented by attorney Courtney Linehan.  He will return to court September 3.
