Dorchester Man Gets 10 Years For Role in ’06 Shootings

A Dorchester man received a 10-year prison sentence today after a Suffolk Superior Court jury found him guilty of assault charges for a shooting incident that claimed the life of 18-year-old Guiliardo Rodrigues.

Judge Regina Quinlan imposed upon MANUEL DASILVA (D.O.B. 10/28/87) the sentences recommended by Assistant District Attorney Mark Hallal on two convictions for assault by means of a dangerous weapon: two terms of four to five years in state prison, with those terms to run back to back. The offense carries a maximum five-year prison term.

The jury that convicted Dasilva of assaults on two surviving victims – one a relative of Rodrigues, the other a friend – acquitted him of Rodrigues’ murder and gun charges.

During the two-week trial, prosecutors sought to prove that Dasilva was one of a group who pulled up near Rodrigues and the surviving victims on Draper Street at about 6:00 a.m. on April 1, 2006.

Prosecutors alleged that he was one of two men who exited the group’s vehicle and opened fire, striking Rodrigues and missing the other two. The three victims scattered, with Rodrigues succumbing to his injuries nearby on Mount Ida Road.

Katherine Moran was the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. Dasilva was represented by attorney Michael Doolin.
