Double Stabbing Suspect Held on $15k; Others Charged in Parade Offenses

BOSTON, March 16, 2015—A North Attleboro man was charged today with stabbing two other men after yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade – including one who was stabbed in the eye – was held on $15,000 cash bail today, while six others were arraigned on less serious offenses and two are the subject of active warrants for failing to appear in court, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JOHN E. GLYNN (D.O.B. 5/4/93) was arraigned today on charges of mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Assistant District Attorney AlexaRae Wright recommended that Glynn be held on $20,000 cash bail and that his bail on an open Bristol County case charging assault with a dangerous weapon – a knife – be denied. Boston Municipal Court Judge Thomas Horgan imposed $15,000 cash bail and declined to revoke his open bail.

Wright also recommended that Glynn be ordered to remain under home confinement and wear a GPS monitor if he posts that amount. Horgan granted those requests.

Glynn is accused of stabbing a 21-year-old man in the face during a fight just before 6:45 yesterday evening at the South Station Commuter Rail platforms. When that victim’s friend, a 22-year-old man, tried to intervene, Glynn allegedly stabbed him in the right eye.

A Commuter Rail conductor witnessed a portion of the incident and described the assailant as “a scrawny kid in green with a wiffle” – a description that matched Glynn, who was detained at the scene by Amtrak Police. Based on witness statements taken by MBTA Transit Police, he was placed under arrest.

In South Boston Municipal Court, Judge Michael Bolden ordered arrest warrants for three men who failed to appear after their arrests yesterday in the area of the St. Patrick’s Day parade. They were PATRIK FINNERTY (D.O.B. 9/3/95) of Braintree, JAMES FUSCO (D.O.B. 8/13/93) of South Boston, and MATTHEW NUGENT (D.O.B. 3/9/94) of Worcester.

Finnerty was arrested by Transit Police for walking on railroad property and disorderly conduct. He is accused of climbing down from the northbound platform of Andrew Station, crossing the track bed, scaling a fence, crossing another track bed, and climbing onto the Braintree-bound platform, casing an arriving train to perform an emergency stop and prompting authorities to cut power to the tracks in both directions.

Nugent is accused of trying to start a fight with a group of men walking past him on East Broadway at about 3:15 p.m. When Boston Police approached and attempted to move him on his way, he refused and unleashed a string of obscenities at them. Officers again instructed him to move along. He again refused, began yelling at officers and raising his arms at them, and was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Fusco was arrested by Boston Police responding to a report of a fight on West 8th Street. When they arrived at the scene of the call, the fight had already broken up – but a very loud party was ongoing. As attendees began to leave, a resident later identified as Fusco came outside and began yelling for his girlfriend. Not knowing where she was, the officers suggested that he return indoors. Fusco allegedly continued to be belligerent and, between shouted expletives, demanded to see his girlfriend. He was taken into custody for disturbing the peace.

Also arraigned today in South Boston court and due back on various dates in April and May were:

  1. GREGORY BLUESTEIN (D.O.B. 11/1/90) of Mansfield, charged with assault and battery on a police officer and released on his own recognizance with orders to stay out of South Boston;
  2. ADRIAN DENAVA (D.O.B. 10/7/96) of Mansfield, charged with throwing a snowball at a group of State troopers and carrying a spring-loaded, double-edged knife and released on his own recognizance with orders to stay out of South Boston;
  3. NICHOLAS SHEA (D.O.B. 12/2/94) of Somerville, charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for a fight with another man on West Broadway and E Street and released on his own recognizance with orders to stay out of South Boston and have no contact with the victim;
  4. RICHARD LENANE (D.O.B. 9/29/93) of South Boston, charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct, released on $1500 cash bail with orders to wear a GPS monitor and remain on house arrest; and
  5. MATTHEW MONTAGNA (D.O.B. 9/20/82) of Reading, charged with drinking in public and possession of a Class E substance, held on $250 cash bail, and ordered to stay out of South Boston.

Two defendants had their charges dismissed on payment of court costs. They were a 20-year-old Fenway woman and a 19-year-old Fenway man charged with possessing alcohol as a minor.
