Eight Arraigned in January Garage Brawl

BOSTON, April 30, 2013—Prosecutors today arraigned eight men accused of taking part in a vicious group attack inside a parking garage, bringing the total number of defendants in the case to 12, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Arraigned today in the Boston Municipal Court were:

  1. DENNIS CHOI (D.O.B. 3/21/86) of Quincy, charged with one count each of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and affray;
  2. TAYLOR DANG (D.O.B. 8/14/86) of Quincy, charged with two counts of each of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and affray;
  3. DUNG HOANG (D.O.B. 8/23/90) of Boston, charged with three counts each of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and affray;
  4. DUY HUYNH (D.O.B. 5/13/90) of Malden, charged with three counts each of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and affray.
  5. THANH QUANG NGUYEN (D.O.B. 1/12/89) of Everett, charged with one count each of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and affray;
  6. TAM THANH PHAN (D.O.B. 7/16/84) of South Dennis, charged with three counts each of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and affray; and
  7. SANG VAN SUYNH (D.O.B. 2/11/85) of Dorchester were both charged with one count each of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and affray.
  8. CHRISTOPHER TRAN (D.O.B. 1/26/1986) of Quincy, charged with one count each of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and affray;

Prosecutors requested bail amounts ranging from $500 to $750 for each defendant.  Judge Robert J. McKenna released all of the defendants on their own recognizance and ordered them to stay away from the victims in this case.

According to prosecutors, the defendants and four others were among a large group of men who attacked three men and three women inside a parking garage at 10 Park Plaza after a verbal dispute at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 27.  At the time of the assault, the victims were leaving the parking garage after celebrating a friend’s birthday.

As a result of the attack, a 24-year-old Brookline man suffered a concussion, a separated shoulder, chipped teeth, a hand injury, and numerous cuts and bruises.  A 22-year-old man from East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and a 23-year-old Warwick, Rhode Island, man each suffered head and facial injuries.  One of the female victims, a 24-year-old Boston woman, suffered a hand injury. The assailants fled prior to the arrival of police, but the altercation was captured on video, prosecutors said.

State Police were assisted in identifying the defendants by members of the Dorchester Probation Department, Quincy Police Department, and ordinary citizens.

Four defendants have previously been arraigned in connection with the incident.

TRONG VAN HUYNH (D.O.B. 6/25/87), arraigned March 6, is charged with aggravated assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, affray, and disorderly conduct.   ALEX LI LIN (D.O.B. 3/13/85), HUNG T. DUONG (6/02/82), and ROBERT TRAN (D.O.B. 8/12/85) are charged with assault and battery and related offenses. Their bails ranged from personal recognizance to $2,000.

Suynh was represented by Frank Fernandez, Nguyen by Pamela Rogers, Dang by Patrick Colvario, Hoang by Michael Demore, Huynh by Anthony Roa, Choi by Danny Toscano, Phan by Robert Launie, and Tran by Robert Collins.  All will return to court on July 19.
