BOSTON, April 5, 2013—A Dorchester man was arraigned today on charges that he participated in the stabbing of his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his 8-month-old child, by his new partner, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer OKeeffe of the DA’s Domestic Violence Team recommended that DAQUAN SPARKS (D.O.B. 8/22/93) be held on $500,000 cash bail and be ordered to stay away from the victim and wear a GPS tracking device if he posts that amount. Dorchester District Court Judge Rosalind Miller imposed $75,000 cash bail and set the recommended conditions of release.

Sparks was arrested yesterday on a warrant obtained by Boston Police detectives investigating the Monday afternoon stabbing of Sparks’ ex-girlfriend. In the aftermath of that incident, the victim said that Sparks had contacted her by phone and arranged a meeting near Savin Hill station in which he was to give her a pair of sneakers for their child.

Instead, the victim said, Sparks restrained her while SAMIA JONES (D.O.B. 2/29/96) stabbed her repeatedly in the back, leg, face, and torso. The victim was transported to Boston Medical Center and is expected to survive her injuries.

Jones was apprehended shortly after the attack and arraigned April 2. She is currently held on $50,000 cash bail. Boston Police undertook a search for Sparks and located him in Quincy yesterday afternoon.

“Our primary concern in every domestic violence case is the safety and well-being of the victim,” Conley said. “She – and anyone in an abusive relationship – can count on our help and support even in the most frightening and difficult times.”
