BOSTON, Sept. 13, 2017—The younger of two men shot while riding their motorcycles on the Southeast Expressway this weekend has died of his injuries.

Scott M. Stevens, Jr., 32, of East Taunton died late yesterday afternoon at Boston Medical Center of gunshot injuries sustained Sunday afternoon as he and a family member rode southbound on Route 93 near the Neponset Avenue exit. The 54-year-old family member, who was also struck by gunfire, was transported to Tufts Medical Center and is expected to survive.

The preliminary investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the Suffolk County Detective Unit and Troop H suggests that the operator of a red Jeep Renegade also travelling southbound opened fire on the men, striking both victims, and continued driving.

A red Jeep Renegade believed to be the suspect vehicle was later located in Dorchester. That vehicle has been secured as part of the investigation, which has been aided by State Police criminalists, Boston Police detectives, and Suffolk homicide prosecutors.

Members of the public provided valuable information and tips in the aftermath of the shooting, but Conley said the investigation was still very active.
