On the one month anniversary of Israel Sanchez’ death in a Chelsea hit-and-run, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Police Chief Brian Kyes today announced that the victim’s family had posted a reward for information on the incident.
“There’s already an undeniable moral reason for tipsters to come forward,” Conley said. “But this reward might help us identify the car that struck Mr. Sanchez and bring his loved ones some sense that justice will be done.”
Members of Sanchez’ family have pledged a $2000 reward for information leading to an arrest in his Aug. 28 death. Prospective tipsters are asked to call Chelsea Police detectives at 617-466-4843 or the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call the Chelsea Police CrimeStoppers tip line at 617-466-4880, text the word CHELSEA and their information to TIP411 (847411), or submit information online at www.ChelseaPolice.com.
Investigators believe Sanchez was walking north along Route 16 in Chelsea just before 12:30 a.m. when he crossed the roadway in the area of Washington Avenue. He crossed the eastbound lane without incident; he was struck by an unknown vehicle in the westbound lane, however, suffering mortal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at Massachusetts General Hospital. The vehicle continued travelling west without stopping.
Based on witness statements and evidence recovered at the scene, investigators have a general description of the vehicle and its damage:
Investigators have already reached out to area mechanics, glass replacement services, and auto body shops to request their assistance in the event that the vehicle is brought in for repairs.
