FOUR DOLLARS AND ZERO SENSE

A Mattapan man was charged today with stealing money from the tip jar at a popular Roslindale bakery on Friday evening, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

MICHAEL P. KACHELE (D.O.B. 7/30/80) of Mattapan was arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on a single count of larceny under $250 for allegedly snatching a fistful of dollars out of the tip jar at the Fornax Bread Company. Judge Robert J. McKenna set his bail at $250 and ordered him to stay away from the Corinth Street bakery while his case is open.

Boston Police responded to the scene just before 6:00 Friday evening and learned that a man – later identified as Kachele – had asked to use the business’ telephone to call his mother. After an employee turned around briefly, she noticed that several dollar bills were missing from the tip jar on the counter. When she confronted the man, he fled the premises.

Using a description provided by the employee, Boston Police began looking for a white male about 5’10” tall wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts. A short time later, additional officers saw Kachele, who met that description, walking on Washington Street in the direction of Forest Hills. He was later positively identified by employees.

Officers recovered $4.00 in bills from Kachele’s person during a subsequent search.

Kachele will return to court on Sept. 13.
