Fugitive from Maine Held after Boston Gun Arrest

BOSTON, Jan. 13, 2014—Two alleged career criminals – one an accused fugitive from Maine – were arraigned today after Boston Police arrested the duo with a loaded firearm, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

THOMAS MCNAIR III (D.O.B. 8/31/88) and DOUGLAS WALKER (D.O.B. 8/20/84) of Roslindale were arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges stemming from their arrest late yesterday.

McNair was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm.  He was additionally charged as a Level I armed career criminal based on a 2011 conviction in Boston Municipal Court for distribution of a class B substance.

Walker was arraigned on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, and being a fugitive of justice from Maine, where he is the target of a York County Superior Court warrant for allegedly violating the terms of his probation on a drug trafficking conviction. He was also charged as a Level II armed career criminal based on a 2005 conviction in Dorchester District Court for possession with intent to distribute a class B substance and 2003 convictions in the same court for distribution of a class B substance.

Assistant District Attorney Thomas Costello requested that bail for McNair be set at $30,000.  Judge John McDonald set bail in the amount of $20,000 and ordered McNair to wear a GPS monitoring device and abide by a curfew in the event that he is released on bail.  At Costello’s request, McDonald ordered Walker held without bail.

According to prosecutors, a 911 call shortly before 11:00 p.m. Sunday notified Boston Police to two men with a gun inside a gray sedan on Whiting Street.  Arriving officers located the vehicle and two men inside matching the description provided.

The two men, later identified as Walker and McNair, initially refused to show their hands but complied after a second order from police, prosecutors said.  After placing his hands in the air Walker, who was sitting in the passenger seat, allegedly bent down and reached under the seat.

Both were ordered out of the vehicle and placed in handcuffs.

Officers located under the passenger seat a Jimenez .380 with six live rounds and one in the chamber.  Walker allegedly told police that he did not have a license to carry and claimed to have no knowledge of the firearm.

McNair is represented by Hasan Williams.  Walker is represented by Robert Grazioso.  Both defendants will return to court on Feb. 11.
