Grand Jury Indicts Suspect in South Boston, Esplanade Assaults

BOSTON, Sept. 21, 2015—The South End man linked by DNA evidence to a series of sexual assaults has been charged in a nine-count indictment for the four attacks on women during a four-year period, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

The Suffolk County Grand Jury today returned nine indictments charging ALEJANDRO DONE (D.O.B. 9/13/86) of the South End with:

  • Rape in connection with an assault in Joe Moakley Park on July 29, 2006;
  • Rape and assault with intent to rape for a June, 16, 2007, attack along the Esplanade;
  • Aggravated rape, assault with intent to rape, kidnapping, and armed robbery in connection with a July 29, 2007, attack along the Esplanade;
  • And aggravated rape and kidnapping for an assault near Preble Circle on June 13, 2010.

A Superior Court arraignment date has not yet been scheduled.

In each assault, Done allegedly targeted women walking or jogging alone late at night or in the early morning hours during the summer months and primarily on weekends.

DNA evidence collected after each assault was entered into the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System.  The cases went unsolved until July of this year, when State Police criminalists matched the assailant’s DNA profile to Done, who was arrested last year in connection with another sexual assault in Cambridge.

Done was arraigned July 20 in South Boston Municipal Court and again on July 23 in Boston Municipal Court in connection with the assaults.  He was ordered held without bail after dangerousness hearings in both courts and continues to be held without bail while the case against him in Middlesex County remains pending.

Sexual assault can happen to anyone. While the victims of any crime are asked to call 911 in an emergency, the survivors of sexual violence in Suffolk County can also call the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center’s 24-hour hotline at 800-841-8371. The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center provides medical advocacy, legal services, counseling, and other services to victims of rape and sexual assault.

Anne Kelley-McCarthy is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate.  Done is represented by Tim Bradl.
