Alleged Gunman Charged in Franklin Field Homicide

Defendant in Custody on Earlier Homicide Case

BOSTON, June 30, 2017—Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Boston Police Commissioner William Evans today announced a murder indictment in the November 2016 homicide of 28-year-old Dantley Leonard in Dorchester.

After months of investigation by Boston Police homicide detectives and Suffolk prosecutors, the Suffolk County Grand Jury on June 20 returned indictments charging JULIAN TROCHE (D.O.B. 7/15/92) with first-degree murder, armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting that claimed the life of Leonard – a Kingston resident – and injured a second man.

Boston Police responded to the area of Ames Street inside the Franklin Field housing development at approximately 4:46 p.m. on Nov. 12 and located two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Both victims were taken area hospitals, where Leonard succumbed to his injuries.  The second victim survived.

Troche is currently in custody awaiting trial in the June 18, 2016, murder of 31-year-old Andrew Flonory in a shooting that also left a second man injured.  According to prosecutors, Troche opened fire on the men as they approached a party on Astoria Street in Mattapan that evening.  He has remained held without bail on that case since Nov. 17, 2016. His arraignment for Leonard’s murder has not yet been scheduled.
