Guilty Verdict in Slaying at House of Correction

BOSTON, Nov. 17, 2014—A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted the man who beat 25-year-old Alexander Callahan to death at the Suffolk County House of Correction, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Jurors convicted LESLEY JURCZUK (D.O.B. 10/15/61) of voluntary manslaughter for beating Callahan so badly in the cell they shared that Callahan died of fatal injuries to his head and neck. Jurczuk had been indicted for second-degree murder.

The verdict came on the first full day of deliberations following about nine days of testimony proving that Jurczuk caused Callahan’s death during a physical altercation inside the cell they shared on the afternoon of Dec. 2, 2012.

Jurczuk faces up to 20 years in state prison when he is sentenced on Dec. 3. He was represented by attorney Timothy Flaherty.
