An Everett man was held on $75,000 cash bail today for allegedly beating a young woman in the head with a baseball bat on Halloween, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

CARMEN PICARDI (D.O.B. 1/17/71) was arraigned this morning in the Boston Municipal Court on charges of mayhem and armed assault with intent to murder. In addition to setting the bail recommended by Assistant District Attorney David Givskud, Judge Robert McKenna ordered Picardi to return to court on Dec. 9.

Picardi was arrested Friday by Boston Police detectives investigating the incident, which took place near the intersection of Causeway and North Washington streets at about 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 31.

Prosecutors allege that Picardi swung a Louisville Slugger baseball bat at a 21-year-old Medford woman, hitting her in the head and causing serious injuries that required about 50 staples to treat, while wearing face paint, a dark wig, and a baseball uniform – the dress of the “Furies” gang from the movie The Warriors.

Picardi allegedly fled the scene with three others, briefly entering a Brookline taxi and asking first to be taken to Jamaica Plain and then to Everett; the cab driver would not take them because he was not licensed to pick up fares in Boston. The driver later gave a detailed statement to Boston Police.

Detectives also spoke with the staff and patrons of several nearby establishments. Those interviews, along with photographs taken inside the establishments, provided investigators with further avenues of inquiry. As a result of additional investigation, Boston Police executed a search warrant at Picardi’s Highland Avenue home on Friday evening and, with the assistance of Everett Police, took him into custody.
