HIGH BAIL FOR MAN CHARGED IN ROSLINDALE DRUG BUST

A Roslindale man was held on $160,000 cash bail today following his arraignment on drug trafficking charges stemming from a bag full of money and drugs that sailed out of his Paine Street apartment when Boston Police tried to serve an arrest warrant on another resident, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced.

Boston Police trying to execute a warrant yesterday morning were surprised to see a shopping bag packed with bundles of cash, bags of drugs, and blue latex gloves fly from a third-floor window – followed moments later by their alleged owner, LUIS PORTALATIN (D.O.B. 1/19/81), who was dressed only in his pajamas.

“He wasn’t the one the officers were looking for, but they arrested him just the same,” Conley said.

Portalatin tried to flee the area, making his way over several fences and through neighboring yards despite his lack of footwear. Officers took him into custody on American Legion Highway.

Other officers secured the plastic bag that Portalatin allegedly tossed from his window, finding 452.18 grams of heroin and 182.86 grams of cocaine in 24 bags of various sizes. Also in the bag was $15,890 in bundled cash.

Officers spoke to the building’s owner, who told them that Portalatin and his roommate paid their monthly rent in cash and had changed the locks on their door.

Assistant District Attorney Laura Bernath recommended that Portalatin be held on $750,000 given his apparent access to cash and the incentive to flee a 15-year minimum mandatory prison term for trafficking in more than 200 grams of heroin and a 10-year minimum mandatory prison term for trafficking in 100 to 200 grams of cocaine.

West Roxbury District Court Judge Ernest Sarason ordered Portalatin to return to court on April 28.
