Boston, July 22, 2013— Two men were ordered held on high bail at their arraignment today on firearm charges, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

TERRANCE JOHNSON (D.O.B 7/9/88) of Hyde Park and JEREMY HARRIS (D.O.B. 7/25/89) of Brockton were arraigned today in Roxbury District Court.

Harris was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm as a subsequent offense, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, trespassing, resisting arrest and being a Level 2 armed career criminal.  According to prosecutors, Harris has a 2010 conviction for a firearm offense as well as a 2012 conviction for assault and battery.

Johnson was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, trespassing, failure to stop for police, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Assistant District Attorney Thomas Costello requested Harris’ bail be set at $250,000 and that bail for Johnson be set at $50,000.  Judge David Weingarten set bail for Harris at $100,000 and $50,000 for Johnson, and both will be subject to GPS monitoring and house arrest if they are released on bail.  Bail was set at $50,000 for Johnson.  Weingarten additionally revoked Harris’ bail on an assault and battery case out of Brockton.

According to prosecutors, a Boston Police detective in the area of Orchard Park Housing Development following two separate shooting incidents observed a male later identified as Harris exit a vehicle on Eustis Street and begin walking in the direction of Dearborn Street.  The detective then heard approximately eight gunshots and saw the Harris run back to the parked vehicle carrying what appeared to be a firearm, prosecutors said.

As police followed the vehicle in an unmarked cruiser, Harris allegedly tossed the gun from the car in the area of Forest Street.  Police were able to hear the gun hit the ground, prosecutors said.  The car traveled in the wrong direction down two one way streets and reached speeds of up to 70 miles per hour before coming to a stop on Half Moon Street, where both Harris and the vehicle’s driver, Johnson, fled the vehicle, prosecutors said.

Harris was arrested on the porch of a Half Moon Street home after a brief struggle, according to prosecutors.  With the assistance of a K9 unit, police found Johnson hiding under a tarp outside another address on the same street.

A semi-automatic handgun was discovered on Forest Street where prosecutors allege Harris tossed it from the fleeing vehicle, and shell casings were found in the area of the shooting on Eustis Street, prosecutors said.

Harris was represented for bail purposes by Rebecca Kratka.  Johnson was represented by Whitfield Larrabee.  Both will return to court on Aug. 21.
