HIGH BAIL IN DOUBLE SHOOTING AT DCR FIELD

The alleged gunman in a double shooting that wounded two teens last month was held on $100,000 cash bail today on attempted murder charges, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ADO DASILVA (D.O.B. 7/26/91) of Boston’s South End was formally charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder and gun offenses in West Roxbury District Court this morning. Dasilva allegedly shot two 17-year-old males at Kelly Field, a park owned by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, on the evening of July 18, Conley said.

Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Walsh recommended that Dasilva be held on $200,000 cash bail and that his open bail on charges of marijuana distribution and larceny be revoked; Judge Mary Ann Driscoll set bail in the lower amount and declined to revoke his open bail.

Prosecutors say Dasilva opened fire with a handgun on a group of six young people, striking the two victims. One, a Hyde Park youth, was injured in the right leg and transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; the other, from Mattapan, was struck in the back and buttocks and transported to Massachusetts Hospital. None of their injuries was deemed life-threatening.

Dasilva was identified through witness statements, law enforcement intelligence, and additional evidence developed during an ongoing investigation into last month’s shooting. State Police detectives assigned to Conley’s office arrested him at home yesterday with the assistance of the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.

The Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit has jurisdiction over violent crime on state property within the City of Boston. They were assisted by Troop H investigators and the Crime Scene Services Section. Members of the Boston Police Youth Violence also lent assistance.

The investigation remains open and active, Conley said, urging anyone with information on the shooting to call the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817 or the Boston Police CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS. Tipsters may also text their information to investigators by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463). All tipsters may remain anonymous if they wish.

Jessica Sheehan is the assigned victim-witness advocate. Dasilva was represented today by attorney Joshua Hanye. He will return to court on Aug. 30.
