High Bail in Stabbings of Three Children

BOSTON, June 29, 2015— A Hyde Park man accused of stabbing three children was held on high bail at his arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ROCK AURELIAN (D.O.B. 8/16/63) was arraigned in West Roxbury Municipal Court today on three counts each of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder in connection with the Saturday stabbings.  At the request of Assistant District Attorney Amy Martin of the DA’s Family Protection and Sexual Assault Bureau, Judge Kathleen Coffey imposed $100,000 and orders that Aurelian stay away and have no contact with the victims and a family member and wear a GPS monitor in the event he is released on bail.

Martin told the court that Boston Police responded to 1608 River St. for a report of a person stabbed at approximately 12:15 a.m. Saturday.  While en route, officers were flagged down in the area of River Street and Hillis Road and observed the three victims – a 15-year-old female, an 11-year-old male, and a 9-year-old male – on the sidewalk, each bleeding from multiple stab wounds.  Officers learned that the victims had been stabbed by Aurelian, who was known to them as a friend of their family.  Officers were provided with a description of the assailant, prosecutors said.

The victims were rushed to Boston Medical Center for treatment.  Two of the victims suffered injuries severe enough that Boston Police Homicide Unit detectives were notified; however, all three victims are now expected to survive.

Aurelian was observed by an officer on patrol in the area of Sunnyside Avenue.  He allegedly held his hand behind his back, motioning as though pulling out a weapon, and repeatedly yelled at the officer to shoot him, Martin said.  Aurelian continued to come toward the officer, who was able to maintain a safe distance until additional officers arrived on scene and helped subdue Aurelian.

During his arrest, Aurelian allegedly made post-Miranda statements, “I did it… I planned this all along.  I wanted you to kill me.”

Kate Lagana of the DA’s Child Protection Unit is the assigned victim-witness advocate.  Aurelian was represented at arraignment by Catherine Laraia of the Committee for Public Council Services.  He returns to court July 28.
