Hit-and-Run Investigation Continues in Chelsea

State Police, Chelsea Police, and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office continue to investigate a fatal hit-and-run in Chelsea just before 12:30 a.m.

The victim of the collision, a pedestrian, has been identified as a 39-year-old Chelsea resident. His name is not being released until his next of kin – believed to reside outside the Commonwealth – can be contacted.

Evidence developed thus far suggests that the victim was walking north along Route 16 in Chelsea when he crossed the roadway in the area of Washington Avenue. He crossed the eastbound lane without incident; he was struck by an unknown vehicle in the westbound lane, however, suffering mortal injuries.

The man was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he died of those injuries later this morning.

State troopers assigned to the Revere Barracks, Chelsea Police detectives, and the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit are investigating the collision. The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section is assisting, as is the Crime Scene Services Section.
