Hockey Player Admits Assault on Fellow Student

BOSTON, Aug. 7, 2012—A Boston University hockey player admitted to groping a resident advisor, accepting three criminal convictions for the incident at a Buick Street dormitory building late last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

COREY TRIVINO (D.O.B. 1/12/90) pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and battery and one count of trespassing for the Dec. 11 incident. Brighton District Court Judge Patricia Bernstein sentenced Trivino to the sentence recommended by prosecutors: two years of probation with orders to remain alcohol-free, submit to random urine testing, attend weekly meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous, undergo a mental health evaluation, and have no contact with the victim.

Trivino pleaded guilty as his trial was set to begin. Had the case proceeded, Assistant District Attorney Gloriann Moroney of Conley’s Family Protection and Sexual Assault Bureau would have introduced testimony to show that Trivino and others were loud and boisterous during the mandatory quiet hours that night when the victim, a 23-year-old resident advisor, instructed them to quiet down.

Testimony would have shown that Trivino walked back to the victim’s room with her and groped her after she told him to leave. Trivino left, only to return a few minutes later; the victim opened her door and Trivino assaulted her again. At one point, Trivino sat down on her bed and said he was going to sleep there that night.

The victim sent a text message to a friend asking him to assist her. She later called the resident director, who instructed her to call Boston University Police. She did so, leading to Trivino’s arrest after he entered the elevator in which responding officers were riding to his floor.

Conley urged victims of any crime, including sexual assault, to call 911 in an emergency, Survivors of sexual violence in Suffolk County can also call the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center’s 24-hour hotline at 800-841-8371. The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center provides medical advocacy, legal services, counseling, and other services to victims of sexual assault.

Nicole Crosta was the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. Trivino was represented by attorney Conrad Bletzer.
