Jury Selection Begins in 2011 Abbott Street Slaying

BOSTON, Jan. 14, 2013—Jury selection is under way in a Mattapan man’s trial for the fatal 2011 shooting of Shawn Flores in Dorchester.

KENDRICK CLARK (D.O.B. 3/19/74) of Dorchester is charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. Prosecutors allege that he shot Flores, 29, to death near the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Abbott Street at about 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 22, 2011. Clark was apprehended in a Raleigh, North Carolina, motel room on Oct. 31 of that year.

Lawyers’ opening statements and prosecution testimony are expected to begin on Thursday, with a view of salient locations tentatively expected Friday morning.

Assistant District Attorney David Fredette of the Suffolk DA’s Homicide Unit is trying the case. Kara Hayes is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. Attorney Michael Bourbeau represents the defendant. Judge Patrick Brady is presiding in courtroom 815 of Suffolk Superior Court.
