Man Guilty in Maine Woman’s 2009 Murder

BOSTON, March 26, 2013 – The man who killed a 29-year-old woman from Lewiston, Maine, and shot a second victim in the head in 2009 has been found guilty of murder, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury deliberated for one day before finding AMOS “ACE” DON (D.O.B. 3/11/86) of Dorchester guilty of murder in the first degree in the shooting death of Erica Field, as well as aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to murder, and illegal possession of a firearm in the non-fatal shooting of the woman’s boyfriend.

Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum introduced evidence during the course of the trial to prove that Don often traveled Lewiston during the summer of 2009 in order to sell drugs and enlisted Field’s boyfriend as a local dealer.  A large quantity of that went missing in August, at about the same time that Field’s boyfriend paid Don $6,000 for drugs to sell.  On Aug. 25, Don and the two victims drove to Boston to obtain those drugs: prosecutors say Don shot the male victim with the intention of using his money to pay off Don’s heroin supplier.  Don directed the surviving victim to drive to a Norwell Street truck storage lot, where he shot the male victim once in the head and shot Field twice, killing her.

Don, who is currently serving a 76-month sentence on a federal gun conviction, will face sentencing tomorrow before Judge Christine McEvoy.  First-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence of life in prison.

Katherine Moran is he DA’s assigned victim witness advocate.  Don is represented by attorney Stephen Weymouth.
