Man Plays “Capture the Flag,” Wins Trip to Jail

A man who allegedly broke into the Boston Tea Party Museum construction site and stole its American flag was arraigned on breaking and entering charges yesterday, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JAMIE ALENSKIS (D.O.B. 11/4/62) is charged with breaking into the Congress Street work site just before 5:30 Sunday evening, climbing to the top of the building, and stealing the American flag from its top before fleeing on foot. South Boston District Court Judge Michael Bolden ordered him held on $750 cash bail.

Nearby workers saw the unpatriotic display and called Boston Police, describing a tall, white male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans with yellow designs on the pockets.

Officers responded moments later, soon spotting the 6’4” Alenskis, who was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans with yellow designs on the pockets. He was also sipping from a 16 ounce can of Natural Light beer as he sauntered down Atlantic Avenue. The officers didn’t see a flag on him, but they noticed that Alenskis appeared to have a bulge in the area of his chest.

When the officers asked him to open his sweatshirt, Alenskis allegedly stated that he was delivering a package. After continued requests, he opened his sweatshirt and removed a folded flag from underneath his shirt, at which time he was taken into custody.

Alenskis allegedly continued to maintain that he had a package to deliver.

Alenskis was represented by attorney Thomas Caldwell. He will return to court on Nov. 15.
